Some are DOC maintained, but the majority are looked after by individuals or groups in the outdoor community, that's if they are looked after at all. Feel free to adopt one that looks like it needs work. Having a name next to it does not mean that person has exclusive "ownership" of it. In fact, they'd love you to help. It would be useful to inform them if you are planning or have done work. We can provide you with their contact details through the contact link above. It is also helpful to keep us in the loop so we can update this and the related hut pages of any work or improvements.
